Consult

Consult

We offer garden consultations, answering your design questions, identifying plants in your gardens, addressing maintenance issues and other landscape questions. A consultation gift certificate from A Southern Gardener is a wonderful gift for Motherโ€™s or Fatherโ€™s Day, housewarming, or birthdays.

Design

Design

Our goal is to create a landscape according to your desires and dreams. We believe in creating a garden that will delight all of your senses, yet not overwhelm you with upkeep and maintenance.

Installation/Renovation

Installation/Renovation

That is the question. Some gardens need a complete transformation, some just need a little TLC. It all starts with soil preparation and continues with proper planting of trees, shrubs and perennials. The key is the right plant for the right spot.

Containers

Containers

We love to create containers with panache! Whether bulbs in spring, tumbling explosions of annuals in summer, or collections of greens for winter, our focus is to meet your desire for low maintenance, color and texture.

Maintenance

Maintenance

Your gardens, how they grow and appear, are important to us. We weed, plant and trim to realize all your garden wishes. There is not a weed we will not pull because we love your gardens as much as you.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. Every day I get to work alongside the most hardworking crew of women out in the cold, in the heat, in the rain; tending gardens with so much heart. And to our clients, thank you for trusting us with the places you love. It’s a blessing to spend my days with my hands in the dirt and my feet on this good Michigan earth. Wishing y’all a warm and restful Thanksgiving. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸคŽ #ASouthernGardener #GrossePointeGardens #GardenLife #Thanksgiving2025 #GratefulHeart #WomenWhoGarden #OrganicGardening #MichiganGardens

Well friends, this past April and May we spent a whole month in Ireland, and I’m still thinking about those gardens. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ Everywhere you turn, something is blooming, climbing up an old stone wall, or spilling over a path like it’s been there for generations. The colors and textures layer together in that easy, effortless way only nature can manage. Now we didn’t see much sunshine — folks kept telling us that’s just Ireland — but the few times the sun did break through those clouds, it lit up the whole countryside in the most beautiful way. That’s when you truly understand why they call it the Emerald Isle. Swipe through and wander with me… Ireland is a gardener’s daydream. โœจ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช #ASouthernGardener #MilOnTheRoad #IrelandInBloom #GardenTravel #EmeraldIsle #GardenInspiration #SouthernGardenerTravels
It is time to cut down your herbaceous peonies and tuck them in for winter. Before you take those pruners out make sure you know which type of peony you have. Herbaceous peonies get cut back. Tree peonies do not. Cutting herbaceous peonies keeps disease and rot from settling in and clearing out every old leaf around the base gives those fresh spring shoots a clean healthy start. We leave our peony cages right where they are so we remember where those plants are sleeping and you will need those cages again when the blooms get big and heavy in the spring. A little care now brings a whole lot of beauty later and your peonies will thank you come May. ๐ŸŒธ #PeonyCare #FallGardenTips #HerbaceousPeonies #TreePeonies #OrganicGardening #GardenMaintenance #ASouthernGardener #GrossePointeGardens #FallCleanup #PeonyPrep #GardeningAdvice #MasterGardener #GardenHowTo
